If you’re interested in learning more about the effects of women ignoring their feminine power (and periods), click here to read an article I wrote and here to watch an inspiring TEDx talk from one of my mentors, Dr. Libby Weaver. Dr. Libby also wrote a wonderful book called Rushing Woman’s Syndrome, that I highly recommend. Here’s an article I found on some decent looking period tracking apps. Let me know if you try one! The book I mention in today’s video is The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron, and the exercise she describes in the book is called Morning Pages. Unlock Your Fertile Potential Using These 3 Unexpected Tips

Unlock Your Fertile Potential Using These 3 Unexpected Tips

In today’s episode of Whole Woman Wednesday you’ll learn three unexpected ways to unlock your fertile potential and feel more powerful and supported in the world. (Even if you’re not trying to conceive, you won’t want to miss these tips, they can be life-changing!) So often in my practice, when working with a fertility patient, she will start to undergo major life changes and ask herself who she wants to be and how she wants to live her life. According to Chinese medicine, this deep introspection and consequent action is the key to becoming more fertile. If you’re interested in learning more about the concept I talk about in this video of accessing your fertile potential by expressing more of your authentic self, read this article I wrote. Click play above to watch the full episode–and see my ballet warm-up bloopers at the end. Real ballerinas, don’t judge. 😉 If you like today’s video, please share it with your friends and family. How Healthy Boundaries Improve Fertility And Digestion

How Healthy Boundaries Improve Fertility And Digestion

It may sound strange, but setting healthy boundaries can actually improve your digestion and fertility, according to Chinese medicine. Many of the women I treat who struggle to conceive also have several food sensitivities and/or digestion issues. These women also tend to be what we call Earth-type people in Chinese medicine. However, all of us have Earth energy, no matter what our type. According to Chinese medicine, each of us is made up of the five elements: Earth, Fire, Metal, Water, and Wood. Each element corresponds to a different organ system in the body. The Earth element rules the digestion. Symbolically, the Earth element represents how we “digest” the world around us, in all aspects. When there is an imbalance in Earth energy, one of the ways this imbalance can manifest is by not being able to discern between “self” and “other” when foreign bodies enter into a woman’s system such as food or the DNA of her partner when trying to conceive. Both of these instances are examples...

The Urgency Of Feminism For Men And Women + Resources Galore

The Urgency Of Feminism For Men And Women + Resources Galore

The recent U.S. presidential election elucidated the massive amount of social, political, economic and environmental work that remains to be done in the world. For me, the issue that hits closest to home is gender inequality, also known as women’s rights, or feminism.   Women’s Rights Aren’t Just About Women   Not only do women’s rights affect the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health of women–an aspect of feminism that interests me greatly as a women’s health practitioner–women’s rights also affect men and children. In fact, women’s rights affect the entire world. After all, women make up half the population on the planet. Anyone who has ever felt marginalized sees the world through that oppressed lens. They possess a hypersensitivity that those who have not felt marginalized do not possess–whether due to the color of their skin, sexuality, gender, physical capability, country of origin or any other state of being.   Men And Women Need To Communicate About Feminism   I am struck by the inherent ways that my husband and I view and process the world around us. I...

How To Energetically Protect Yourself As A Highly Sensitive Woman

How To Energetically Protect Yourself As A Highly Sensitive Woman

I believe highly sensitive, empathetic women are healers. Whether or not you’re in the healing profession, if you’re this type of woman, you tend to assimilate the energy of the people you love and come into contact with in effort to take away their pain. It’s what we do best. While being highly sensitive and empathetic have enormous benefits, it’s imperative that we learn the art of self-protection. With the internet and social media, the amount of people we are in contact with day-to-day has grown exponentially. Side note:  You don’t have to be in someone’s physical presence to feel the effects of their energy, as I’m sure you have already experienced to be true. When I was in acupuncture school treating patients in the student clinic, I would see a patient and later complain of the exact symptoms I was treating earlier that would seemingly come out of nowhere. Interestingly, my patients would report they felt better immediately after our session. This became a pattern I would notice frequently throughout my schooling and into my first...

Redefine Your Authentic Feminine Power After Age 35

Redefine Your Authentic Feminine Power After Age 35

After age 35, a woman enters into the Queen or Imperial phase of life, according to ancient Chinese medicine texts written about self-empowerment in 600 CE. She transitions away from the Maiden or Princess phase, where she was concerned with what the world thought of her, how she looked to everyone around her, what others wanted her to do, and procreation. During this transformation, the Heart, also known as the Emperor or Empress in Chinese medicine, heats up and loses communication with the cooling water aspect of the Kidneys. This can lead to irregular periods, mood swings, and fertility issues; a collection of symptoms also known as perimenopause. I believe the Heart heating up is the body’s way of speaking up to be heard. It’s asking the woman, what do YOU want? How do YOU feel? What is YOUR expression of your authentic self in the world, regardless of other’s opinions and expectations? Literally and figuratively, what does your heart want? I recently listened to an interview on Dear Sugar Radio with singer/songwriter India Arie, who talked...
