Release Weight Naturally And Sustainably Using These 3 Tips

Release Weight Naturally And Sustainably Using These 3 Tips

In this week’s episode of Whole Woman Wednesday, you’ll learn my three best tips to naturally and sustainably lose weight. These are the same principles I followed to lose 50 lbs that I gained during my second pregnancy and that I teach my patients and nutrition program participants around the world. (If you’re interested in reading more about my weight loss journey, click here.) You’ll notice that I don’t talk about exercise in this video, and while important for a well-rounded healthy lifestyle, exercise actually contributes very little to losing weight. Weight loss is about 80% what you eat, and only 20% exercise.  If you want more guidance and support to achieve your weight release goals, balance your hormones, and feel better in your body, click here to learn about my 28-day online nutrition program, Wonder Woman. This program is wonderful for postpartum mamas, or any woman who is seeking to balance her hormones, clean up her diet, and release weight.   Good news!    I have a brand new...

5 Weight Loss Mistakes Every Woman Makes

5 Weight Loss Mistakes Every Woman Makes

Weight loss is not about deprivation or discipline; it’s about giving your body proper nutrients so that you are finally able to ditch bad-for-you cravings, make healthy food choices and release weight.  As an acupuncturist that specializes in women’s health and nutrition, I’ve coached hundreds of women from all over the world through my online weight loss programs since 2010. And, speaking from experience, I have easily released 40 lbs that I gained with my second pregnancy using the same techniques I teach. I’ve watched women get life-changing results from making a few important but crucial tweaks in their diet, and you can, too. Here are the five most common weight loss mistakes I’ve seen women make:    Counting calories — All calories are not created equal. Different foods elicit different insulin responses, i.e. fat storage response in the body. Think about how 300 calories of cake would make you feel versus 300 calories of veggies. Rather than counting calories, it’s far more important to eat a combination of a good carbohydrate, protein and healthy fat...

My Favorite Spring Recipe: Omega Yogurt Berry Popsicles

My Favorite Spring Recipe: Omega Yogurt Berry Popsicles

Spring is quickly transitioning into summer here in Colorado–YAY!–and one of my all-time favorite snacks (and pregnant cravings) is yogurt, fresh berries and honey. I love this recipe that I found from Dale Pinnock’s book Healing Foods. He takes my favorite ingredients and makes them into simple, medicinal recipes that I often recommend to my friends and patients. Pinnock’s “Omega Mania Ice Lollies” are an excellent spring / summer treat to easily up your omega intake. Plus, this recipe includes my main criteria for a good recipe: no cooking. 😉   Why increase your omegas?   Omega fatty acids (like fish oil or flax seed oil) are wonderful for balancing your hormones and mood, producing radiant skin, shiny hair, and strong nails, boosting fertility, supporting a healthy pregnancy, and so much more. Yogurt nourishes Kidney yin in Chinese medicine, which plays a huge role in women’s fertility, as well as improves digestion due to its probiotic content. Honey can help alleviate or prevent pesky allergy symptoms that arise...

Boost Your Fertility And Balance Your Hormones Easily Through Food

Boost Your Fertility And Balance Your Hormones Easily Through Food

Menstruating women are complex creatures. How your body digests food, how you feel, what you can accomplish, how well you fight off a cold, how you look, how you perceive yourself changes from week to week—sometimes drastically—depending where you are in your cycle. It’s taken me years, but I have finally learned that I feel like Kate Winslet on the Titanic during my ovulation week (pre-shipwreck, post-Leonardo). I have energy (hey, that’s saying something for a mom with a 15-month-old), I want to be around people, I feel charismatic, I am motivated, I giddily cross things off my To Do List like I just drank 10 cups of coffee, and I may even be up for dancing a jig in the underbelly of a ship with jubilant scallywags. When I’m menstruating, doing the dishes is a huge victory. I’m in more of a floating-on-a-door-in-the-middle-of-the-cold-ocean state of mind. I used to expect the same of myself no matter where I was in my cycle, which led to lots of...

5 Ways Jim Carrey Can Lift Depression By Improving Your Digestion

5 Ways Jim Carrey Can Lift Depression By Improving Your Digestion

If serotonin were a Hollywood star, it would be Jim Carrey–under appreciated (somebody hand that man an Oscar!), multi-talented, and responsible for igniting the personality of show business.   Serotonin is all over the tabloids:  The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Science Daily, Scientific American, and many more respected sources.   Why?   New scientific research reveals this under appreciated neurotransmitter is not only multi-talented but also greatly effects our personality based on signals sent from our digestion. Yes, our digestion.   Science now tells us that over 95% of  the body’s serotonin is produced in our gut. Serotonin, as you may know, is our “happy hormone” or neurotransmitter that effects our mood and our sleep.   If our digestion is not functioning properly, our emotions can suffer. Greatly.   Not surprisingly, in Chinese medicine, there is a direct relationship between grief and elimination. Many patients I treat who have a history of depression also experience digestive and elimination issues. In Chinese medicine, the element Metal...

4 Easy Tips To Banish Colds, Slim Down, Up Your Energy, And Glow From The Inside Out

4 Easy Tips To Banish Colds, Slim Down, Up Your Energy, And Glow From The Inside Out

Did you know that your digestion is the central hub of all your other organ systems in the body? From a Chinese medicine perspective, your digestion is absolutely key to the health of your mind, body, and spirit.   Your digestion is what gives you energy to enjoy your life and accomplish your goals, it’s what gives you beautiful skin, a slim waistline, and a winter with no colds or flus.   If you’ve found yourself experiencing chronic skin breakouts, fatigue, frequent gas and bloating, allergies, or stubborn colds, your digestion may be the culprit.   Instead of getting the flu shot this winter, drinking coffee and eating sugar to boost your energy, or experimenting with different skin care potions to improve your complexion, try these 4 easy tips and you’ll feel like a whole new woman, guaranteed.   1) Probiotics. Your small intestine is home to trillions of bacteria that comprise 70-80% of your immune system. Taking a high quality probiotic that’s clinically tested to survive the...
