My Favorite Spring Recipe: Omega Yogurt Berry Popsicles

My Favorite Spring Recipe: Omega Yogurt Berry Popsicles

Spring is quickly transitioning into summer here in Colorado–YAY!–and one of my all-time favorite snacks (and pregnant cravings) is yogurt, fresh berries and honey. I love this recipe that I found from Dale Pinnock’s book Healing Foods. He takes my favorite ingredients and makes them into simple, medicinal recipes that I often recommend to my friends and patients. Pinnock’s “Omega Mania Ice Lollies” are an excellent spring / summer treat to easily up your omega intake. Plus, this recipe includes my main criteria for a good recipe: no cooking. 😉   Why increase your omegas?   Omega fatty acids (like fish oil or flax seed oil) are wonderful for balancing your hormones and mood, producing radiant skin, shiny hair, and strong nails, boosting fertility, supporting a healthy pregnancy, and so much more. Yogurt nourishes Kidney yin in Chinese medicine, which plays a huge role in women’s fertility, as well as improves digestion due to its probiotic content. Honey can help alleviate or prevent pesky allergy symptoms that arise...

Ignoring Your Calling? Here’s Why That’s A Good Thing

Ignoring Your Calling? Here’s Why That’s A Good Thing

I just birthed a 5-year-old baby. Let me explain. For years, I have wanted to create some sort of online program that helped women get pregnant holistically. I wanted to include the ancient wisdom of Chinese medicine, modern wisdom of proper nutrition, as well as mental /emotional / spiritual preparation tools. FIVE years ago that I had this idea. Or was it six? A week ago, a group of incredible women completed my first Fertile Woman 21-Day Online Event and I had a thought eerily similar to the day my first daughter was born:  I can’t believe I made this. It’s funny because I see remnants of this idea strewn about old blog posts, journal entries, patient charts, and even my day planner. This online program has literally been incubating for years! So, why did it take me so long to create it?   I have some ideas that I think apply to anyone who has a calling and ignores it.   1) I was afraid to put...

7 Crucial Questions To Ask Yourself If You’re Trying To Conceive

7 Crucial Questions To Ask Yourself If You’re Trying To Conceive

If you are trying to conceive and it isn’t happening as easily as you anticipated, tracking down the cause can seem like an endless guessing game. I’ve created this simple list to help you pinpoint exactly what could be preventing you from conceiving, and what to do about it. If getting pregnant is taking longer than you expect, make sure you know the answers to the following 7 questions.   1) Is age a factor?   How to find out: As we age, our ovarian reserve or egg supply ages, too. Studies have shown a decline in egg quantity and quality can start in a woman’s 30s. If your over 30, that doesn’t necessarily mean you have declining egg supply or egg quality, but there are a few tests you can do to find out: Basal follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) test. FSH is the hormone in your body that produces mature eggs in your ovaries. If your FSH levels are too high, it could be a sign that...

How Infertility Healed My Body And Mind

How Infertility Healed My Body And Mind

I believe one of the gifts of infertility, or any disharmony in the body, is that it forces you to take a closer look. Why aren’t things working as they should? If you choose to accept the challenge, in some cases, infertility can lead you to becoming your healthiest self — in body, mind, and spirit. Or, at least that’s how I like to look at it. The first time I became pregnant I miscarried. My husband and I weren’t trying to conceive, it just happened. I was ready to have a baby, but he wasn’t. When I first told him the news, honestly, he was pretty freaked out. So was I! But then it started to sink in, and we began to imagine our lives as a threesome, we wrote down baby names and told our friends — even though it was super early, we couldn’t contain our excitement. Then my period came. We were devastated. And that’s when we realized we wanted a baby. Bad.  ...

How Choosing Love Saved My Business And My Fertility

How Choosing Love Saved My Business And My Fertility

Recently, I came across this poignant quote, “Ask yourself what is really important, and then have the wisdom and courage to build your life around the answer.” As an acupuncturist and clinic owner, writer, business mentor, and creator of several online nutrition programs, I struggle with prioritizing. And balance. I am so passionate about every aspect of my life, that it’s hard for me to focus on one and let the other aspects take second, third, fourth, and fifth place.   Until I had my daughter–she demanded first place. And I’m embarrassed to admit that it was not easy giving it to her. Maybe because I waited a little longer than most to have children and I was getting used to my life the way I designed it to be, or because I love working for myself, or maybe it’s because I’m an only child (I’m sure that factors in somewhere, right?) Last night my husband and I decided to try for a second baby. The best “cure”...

Boost Your Fertility And Balance Your Hormones Easily Through Food

Boost Your Fertility And Balance Your Hormones Easily Through Food

Menstruating women are complex creatures. How your body digests food, how you feel, what you can accomplish, how well you fight off a cold, how you look, how you perceive yourself changes from week to week—sometimes drastically—depending where you are in your cycle. It’s taken me years, but I have finally learned that I feel like Kate Winslet on the Titanic during my ovulation week (pre-shipwreck, post-Leonardo). I have energy (hey, that’s saying something for a mom with a 15-month-old), I want to be around people, I feel charismatic, I am motivated, I giddily cross things off my To Do List like I just drank 10 cups of coffee, and I may even be up for dancing a jig in the underbelly of a ship with jubilant scallywags. When I’m menstruating, doing the dishes is a huge victory. I’m in more of a floating-on-a-door-in-the-middle-of-the-cold-ocean state of mind. I used to expect the same of myself no matter where I was in my cycle, which led to lots of...
